“For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; And the former shall not be remembered or come to mind. But be glad and rejoice forever in what I create; For behold, I create Jerusalem as a rejoicing, and her people a joy. I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in My people; The voice of weeping shall no longer be heard in her, nor the voice of crying.” vs17-19
God’s given us great promises of what heaven will be like. He says, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”
Great grace gives this to us; it is ours now by faith, and one day, it will be ours in reality. See yourself there, and much more, see the God who brings you there as your God now. Paul says, “Set your mind on things above, not on things of the earth”, so set your mind on your eternal riches in Christ, and on the Christ who gives them to you. He is your inheritance, and it consummates in seeing God face to face because you will be like Him. John says, “Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is (1 John 3:2).” You see Him now by faith and one day, your eyes will behold Him who loved you and gave Himself for you in a glory that no human eye can bare.
Think on the Lord Jesus Christ as taking away your sin and bringing you to heaven assuredly. Do not be doubtful about this. The Psalmist said, “What shall I render to the Lord for all His benefits toward me? I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the Lord (Ps 116).” He takes the blessing because God commands him, and he takes the blessing as the proper response. Do not hear good things and think, “Unworthy”. You will be in hell with that mind-state. Grace is UNDESERVED FAVOR EARNED BY JESUS CHRIST. We are not getting what we deserve but what Christ died to give us; it is what God gives freely because He is love – the Most Wonderful Being in existence. Hear these words, and you’ll have answers for all of your doubting: “He is the image of the invisible God”. It is almost too much for my heart to bare: He, the Lord Jesus, the One who washed feet and died for sinners, the One who loved us unto the end, even the death of the cross, is who God is! He, in all of His fury and wrath, in His absolute predestining sovereignty, is the meek and lowly, the humble Lamb of God. He is to be trusted to do us good that we don’t deserve and to reconcile the Father to us; He’s to be trusted to give us what is best at all times and to supply our needs (Phil 4:19). He hasn’t saved us to suffer needlessly, and there is NO WITHHOLDING in His grace. Romans 8, says, “He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?” He is the Invisible God, but He’s revealed perfectly in Jesus Christ who brings us to heaven by His blood and gives us every enjoyment forever – us, who should be suffering for all eternity. This is mind-boggling, but it is what grace has earned and given to us. God’s determined that heaven will be the display of His grace, “that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus” (Eph 2:7). Yes, God’s determined to show off Himself by being good to us, and it will be good beyond all comprehension.
Set your mind on His love and know that He’s yours now. Often, people talk of heaven while sorrowing on earth, as if this life is all misery, and we have to wait until we get there. It is not true. Yes, full enjoyment is later, but there is pleasure in enjoying Him now.
He who gave you heaven gives you Himself on earth! He doesn’t promise no trials, but He’s with you; He doesn’t promise you will not suffer, but that you’ll never die for to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Don’t say, “One day I will be happy” and deny the joy and peace from believing (Rom 15:13). You have God to comfort you in every loss and to bear you up in every trial, so that He can make you rejoice as He’s commanded. He didn’t say, “I’ll be good to you later”, but, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Ps 46:1).” He is Someone to trust, now, and He is full of pleasure, if He is our First Love.
Get back to the place of dependence upon Him, entirely, and make Him your closest relationship, knowing that doing His will brings you peace, even with the difficulty. Christ said, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel’s, who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time — houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions — and in the age to come, eternal life (Mark 10:29-30).” You’ve got it all because you’ve got God – His care, His power, and His purpose, all working together for you.
Why seek joy from Satan, when God is SO GOOD and reconciled?
