“Who is she who looks forth as the morning, fair as the moon, clear as the sun, terrifying as an army with banners?” vs10
The believer is the light of the world. We have the knowledge of Christ and we shine forth. People see us, but it is really Him shining through us. We have the fruit of faith, which is love, joy, and peace, and we love sinners abundantly. Everyone doesn’t love the light, but we do, so we draw near. Jesus said, “But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God (John 3:20-21).” We are persecuted for what we believe, but the righteous hold on to their way. We are how God saves sinners.
Jesus died, but He uses the Church to save the elect. He died for them with a special love, but He makes this love known through us by the Spirit. It is God’s love for sinners, as we are, for Christ’s sake; it is Him doing good to lowly people because He’s good, and we proclaim the gospel.
Angels have not been designed to preach the gospel, but people who can feel your pain and woe have been sent forth. We know what it’s like to be guilty, ruined, and incapable of improvement. We know what it’s like to feel lost, to be dirty, and to have our sins cleansed. We know what it’s like to see the Lord in terror and awe, only to be comforted by His great mercy. We know the gospel by experience! Paul said, “It is clear that you are Christ’s letter, ministered by us, not written with ink but with the Spirit of the living God–not on stone tablets but on tablets that are hearts of flesh (2 Cor 3:3).” It’s written upon our hearts. We feel the joy and peace, and we know reconciliation with God by only believing.
The Church is the best group of people in the world because we’re the only ones who know God. There is one God and one gospel, and we have Him by divine revelation. Paul says, “One Lord, one faith, one baptism (Eph 4:5).” We’ve been snatched, like coals from the burning, and we have the true Light within.
Do not disparage the church! She needs improvement, but she’s righteous. Do not be so foolish as to think that other Christians are suspect, while you’re the cream of the crop. We all fail, and wherever the gospel is preached and sinners are loved, God is present, even when faith is small and blemished. No man is perfect, but the Church saves the world. Our Lord said, “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven (Matt 16:19).”
Do you fear Him and love Him? Are you a member of this great body of Christ?
