“Did Not Comprehend It” (John 1:5)

“In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.  All things became through him, and without him nothing became that has become into being. In him was life, and the life was the light of men.  And the light is appearing in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” vs1-5

Men do not understand God, unless He reveals Himself through Jesus Christ. We are darkness by nature, so we need supernatural light, not merely the light of general revelation, but we need special teaching and instruction, or we’ll never know God, because we are dark and opposed to the truth. Our Lord said, “This, then, is the judgment: The light has come into the world, and people loved darkness rather than the light because their deeds were evil (John 3:19.)” Here it is again, right before our face, the reason that men do not believe on Christ. It is not a lack of light; it is an aversion to the light, lest their deeds be reproved and they have to change. Men love salvation on their terms, but nobody loves God for who He is without miraculous grace. This is the teaching: God was manifested in the flesh, and sinners receive Him not! God the creator of the world has come save us, and we nailed Him to the cursed tree! Peter says, “You killed the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead; we are witnesses of this (Acts 3:15).” The total depravity of man is infinite and bottomless, so that he has no hope in himself and must be pitied to be saved.

Do you receive the Savior’s testimony? Is it true that you have received Him? Have you looked upon Him and seen the sin-atonement that you need? Do you desire to obey and follow Him? These things must be answered by the soul because our eternity will be determined by what we did with Christ. Did we receive Him, then all is well, and we praise God. Did we reject Him? Then we’ll be held accountable for rejecting salvation for the dainties of the world. The Master gives the parable of the King who invited everyone to the feast, but few were chosen to come correct! He says, “For many are invited, but few are chosen (Matt 22:14).” One even came in, but he didn’t have on the garment the King provided, so he perished in his unbelief when “everything is ready.”

Don’t let this happen to you! Receive the Son of God for He is God’s equal and our Judge. He will come back for us to execute vengeance on the unbelievers and to reward those who’ve trusted Him (2 Thess 1:9-10). He’s the only Savior there is, and to reject Him is the highest foolishness because He’s God in gentleness, lest He meets you as God in wrath. “[The unbeliever] will also drink the wine of God’s wrath, which is mixed full strength in the cup of His anger. He will be tormented with fire and sulfur in the sight of the holy angles and in the sight of the Lamb (Rev 14:10).” Poor sinner, you have no hope but Christ. You don’t need your next breath, but you need Christ to mediate between you and God, because you CANNOT come to Him on your own!
