“He came to His own and those who were His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, He gave to them the authority to become children of God, to those who believe in His name, who were born, not from bloods [bloodline], nor from the will of the flesh [human nature], nor from the will of man [super man above his nature], but from God.” vs11-13
The new birth is not from man, but from God, and this is the whole essence of salvation. God says, “So then it does not depend on human will or effort, but on God who shows mercy (Rom 9:16).”
We are sinners, and we can’t be saved, unless God intervenes for us outside of our will power and strength, because we don’t have any. “For while we were still helpless, at the appointed moment, Christ died for the ungodly (Rom 5:6).” We cannot believe, because we love lies rather than truth, and we are totally depraved, having been cursed by God in the Garden (Gen 2:17). This is one of the most unknown truths in all of scripture, that we are CURSED in Adam, so no man can come to Him, as Scripture plainly teaches.
Do not think that you are different! You have no good in you, and all must be sovereign grace and mercy! We are not saved because we are better than others, smarter than others, or have more willpower! We are saved because, “He shows mercy to those He wants to, and He hardens those He wants to harden (Rom 9:18).” He owes us nothing, but He intervenes upon whom He sees fit, causes us to believe the truth, and gives us everlasting life and salvation because He loved us from the foundation of the world. It is true, anyone willing may come to Christ, but no man is willing, so He makes us willing in the day of His power, causing us to believe what we’d never believe, by giving us supernatural power and strength (Ps 110:3).
God is in charge, we are at His mercy, and if you want mercy, then come to Him on His terms, confessing you cannot believe, but that you do believe, so you give Him all credit and glory, which He will not share with another. He says, “I am Yahweh, that is My name; I will not give My glory to another or My praise to idols (Isa 42:8).”
The door is open, but will you come God’s way? If so, then you have the right to be called a son of God. He says, “But as many as received Him, He gave to them the authority to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” You have been saved by matchless mercy, and you have the privileges of eternal life. Brothers, let it be known that you did nothing, and all was grace, and keep this in mind throughout your Christian life!
