“He is the One” (John 1:29-34)

pic dove“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Here is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!  This is the One I told you about: ‘After me comes a man who has surpassed me, because He existed before me.’ I didn’t know Him, but I came baptizing with water so He might be revealed to Israel.” And John testified, “I watched the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He rested on Him. I didn’t know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The One you see the Spirit descending and resting on—He is the One who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ I have seen and testified that He is the Son of God!” vs29-34

We cannot know the Lord Jesus unless the Spirit shows Him to us. John the Baptizer was sent to preach Him and make Him known, but he could not, until He was revealed, and it is the same with you. We must have the Spirit’s anointing power to see Jesus Christ because God’s left the revelation with Himself. Paul said, “This was not made known to people in other generations as it is now revealed to His holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit (Eph 3:5).” He alone can give us life, so we are dependent on God. Yet, the Psalmist said, “I have leaned on You from birth; You took me from my mother’s womb (Ps 71:6).” Before he was even conscience, he was dependent on God, because God made him to move and breathe before he was able to praise Him. Likewise, God has made us dependent on Himself, and He cares for us BEFORE we know it, drawing us to Himself, so the revelation can be given. He always promised us the inheritance, so the time comes when He makes it known, by revealing Jesus Christ in truth and grace, the fullness of God in a body.

These things are hard to explain – that God is sovereign and gracious, that He gives Jesus Christ to everyone that asks, and to those that ask Him not, drawing our hearts with purpose before we were born. He says, “I was found by those who were not looking for Me; I revealed Myself to those who were not asking for Me (Rom 10:20).” Just like John the Baptizer was born again in the womb, even so, we are not only born again but given a ministry of seeing Jesus, so we can show Him to others. One of my life verses for ministry is, “To open their eyes so they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that by faith in Me they may receive forgiveness of sins and inheritance among those who are sanctified (Acts 26:18).” He reveals Himself to us, so we can show Him to others, and He knows that we can’t deliver a message that we don’t have. So, He appeared to Paul, and He appears to you and me in the gospel. He had the Spirit, as the Dove of Peace, descend upon His head, and we have the Spirit of Peace giving us fresh revelations of reconciliation with God and power over sin: By His gentle and still voice, He delivers us from the thunderclaps of the law, and He gives us what His blood has earned.

Have you seen the Lord Jesus? Do you see Him now by faith? If so, then you have peace with God so you can proclaim Him!
