“Everyone the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will never cast out.” vs37
Some preach the gospel as if to exclude sinners, as if they have no compassion and no gospel within them! Jesus was not that way: He preached the whole counsel, and He is the origin of Paul’s compassion, who said, “For I could wish to be cursed and cut off from the Messiah for the benefit of my brothers, my own flesh and blood (Rom 9:3).” His compassion wanted us saved, and we will have it, if we preach the gospel accurately.
Our Lord preached the limited atonement and told all to come: He said He died for the sheep, and no one who comes to Him will be cast out. This is the mystery of election – that God sincerely calls all, and all who come may be utterly assured of reception.
1 We can’t make up our own gospel, but the true gospel saves the elect. He gave them to the Lord Jesus who owes no man. He overcomes our wills and then receives us. He doesn’t save upon human merit, but by the power of grace (Rom 9:16). He draws us to Himself, even as the sheep hear His voice and follow Him. He didn’t die in vain! Not one drop of His blood was shed for anyone who perishes, but He gives eternal life, choosing us irrevocably. He says, “I pray for them. I am not praying for the world but for those You have given Me, because they are yours (John 17:9).”
This is true gospel, and there is NO GOSPEL where sovereign election is destroyed (Rom 9:11-12).” Yet, He has another truth, equally powerful, and BOTH must be preached. He says, “Everyone who believes on Him will not be put to shame (Rom 10:11).”
2 When I first heard the gospel, I sat wondering, “How can I be saved.” I knew the preacher was true, when he declared man sinful and Christ the successful Savior. The resurrection proved His worthiness, and I knew all the Father gave Him would be saved. But, how can I get in on this? I pondered the door of works, perhaps emotions and sincerity, but none of these were the way. The preacher said, “This is for all who believe”, and I said, “I believe”, and I knew that grace was mine. The scriptures filled my mind that I’d read but never understood, “Whosoever believes”, and, “No one who believes on Him will be put to shame (Rom 9:31).”
Now, I knew what believing is! It is doing nothing but believing the testimony of the Son, that He saved all given to Him by the Father, He is the Surety of the sheep, and faith was EVIDENCE (Heb 11:1)!” Faith was the proof that salvation was mine in Jesus Christ. Then, power and joy filled my soul, and the things I was trying to do suddenly came to me – not by the strength of self but Almighty God, “working in us what is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ (Heb 13:21).” I’d believed the gospel, and my election was sure!
Brothers, I charge you by the grace of Christ, preach the whole counsel! He has an elect, and He calls all. He died for the sheep, and He is preached for everyone to turn. Peter says, “God raised up His Servant and sent Him first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your evil ways (Acts 3:26).” He will save the predestined, and He’ll save you, if you come! So come to the Lord Jesus: Don’t let conscience make you linger nor of fitness fondly dream! Don’t let one doubt enter you because of sovereign election: He will receive you assuredly!
3 You know how to read the word, now, if you receive it. God’s word says two different things at the same time. Most cannot receive this, but it is true all the same: He saves by faith apart from works, and He saves by works (Jonah 3:10)! The elect can’t fall away, and He uses warnings about falling away to keep us! He says, “I will make an everlasting covenant with them: I will never turn away from doing good to them, and I will put fear of Me in their hearts so they will never again turn away from Me (Jer 32:40).”
This is the marvel of God, and His mind is greater than ours, so bow down and receive it! Don’t think that you can put Him into human thinking, but receive the gospel as is: He formed the world from nothing, formed dry land from water, and He saves elect sinners by the gospel going unto all. Do not argue, but receive Him as being true, over and over, and every man a liar: He will give you peace, and your holiness will be full.
Do not, for any reason, disregard God’s word because you can’t understand it!
