“If Anyone Eats” (John 6:51)

pic welcome“I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread he will live forever. The bread that I will give for the life of the world is My flesh.” vs51

“If anyone” are some of the great and most encouraging words that we’ll ever hear! “If anyone” means you. Gay or straight. Rich or poor. Murderer or politician: it doesn’t matter. “Whosoever believes”, and, “If anyone” are both true. “For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, since the same Lord of all is rich to all who call on Him (Rom 10:12).”

This means that we are not moral police but gospel preachers. We’re not here to ban gay marriage but to bring them to Christ. We’re not trying to Make America Great but to preach the Great Commission, because our message, like our Master’s, is life unto the world! We want men to know Christ who saves EACH AND EVERY sinner that comes to Him.

Paul said, regarding homosexuals, thieves, and drunkards, “And some of you used to be like this. But you washed yourselves, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God (1 Cor 6:11).” By the Spirit’s power, you washed yourself in the blood of Christ, believing the gospel unto cleansing.

I read somewhere about someone having compassion on homosexuals, and questioning whether they could be in God’s kingdom, as is, since they were usually born that way. The Bible’s answer is clear! All of us were born sinners – some fornicators, some thieves, and others angry, hateful, religious beasts – yet we are all changed by the gospel, when we come to Him. Paul when preaching to the Athenians, said, “Therefore indeed, God overlooked the times of ignorance. Hereafter, he is commanding all men everywhere to repent (Acts 17:30).”

You and I don’t have to despair because of our condition: We can be upright by the power of Christ. Be nothing, know your need, and He will be with you. He says, “Those who are full hire themselves out for food, but those who are starving hunger no more (1 Sam 2:5).” He says, “Though the LORD is exalted, He takes note of the humble; but He knows the haughty from a distance (Ps 138:6).”

The problem isn’t our sin but unbelief: Believe on the Lord Jesus, and He will deliver you! He took the pain and punishment, so He can give you the Spirit. You and I, the filthy sinner, are righteous by believing, and He will help you. Do not look at yourself but look to Him. He is the Bread of Life, broken for you, and you will be filled – not by what YOU supply, but by what YOU receive!

Brothers, let us not hate sinners but preach Christ to them. We are not moralizing the world but saving them by the gospel!
