“I know Him because I am from Him, and He sent Me.” vs29
Jesus Christ has special knowledge of God the Father. He is His equal from all eternity, come into the world to serve Him by redeeming sinners, manifesting the Father’s glory thereby. He is the Perfect Man who trusted Him as a Servant, and we must know the Lord Jesus to know God.
First, God is reconciled to you by His Son’s blood! There’s no other way for Infinite Holiness to dwell with sinners. He passed by the angels that fell, but He gave redemption to Abraham’s seed, the children of faith (Heb 2:16). He bought us from the wrath of God, satisfying justice by the sacrifice of Himself, and now we’re God’s children by adoption: we are back in God’s family and given privileges, even the full inheritance as sons.
Apart from this redemption, we are cursed, and we’ll only know God in wrath, having spurned Him here on earth. He says, “How much worse punishment, do you think he will be deemed worthy of, who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has deemed the blood of the covenant in which he was sanctified as common, and has insulted the Spirit of the grace (Heb 10:29)?”
By this knowledge, however, we are justified – fully accepted and forgiven: as righteous as we’ll ever be in heaven!
Secondly, Jesus reveals the generosity of God! He gave His Son to die for us, sent from heaven’s own Bosom, the Son of His love (John 1:18)! This was no mere transaction, but God died for you in the Person of Jesus Christ, because God gave up His most precious Possession – the Only Begotten of the Father.
No man was so Perfect, and His excellency surpasses Adam’s as the heavens surpass the abyss! “So also it has been written, ‘The first man Adam became a living soul.’ The last Adam is giving-life for our spirit (1 Cor 15:45).” Adam was a man of the dust; the Lord Jesus was from heaven. Adam came into being, while the Lord Jesus eternally existed and then was born. Adam had finite knowledge, but the Eternal Son knew things perfectly, even the beauty of God that made Him trustworthy to the death of the cross and through all the trials of life. He was in all points tempted and has compassion on us because the Father pitied us in love, so much so that He GAVE UP THE SON for our redemption.
Thirdly, Jesus Christ knows God to be the Rewarder! He didn’t come merely to die but to be exalted after His resurrection. He came for the joy set before Him – the reward of being enthroned in glory with His people’s praises (Heb 12:2). He came to manifest the Father, so that eternal beings could see and love Him, displaying His glory in our unceasing happiness. Eph 2:7, “That in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.” He came to have the right to judge the world and break the neck of His enemies (Heb 10:13)! Read the Psalms and see how He longed for victory, when His enemies would be crushed and His children would sing His praises. He says, “Though they curse, You will bless. When they rise up, they will be put to shame, but Your servant will rejoice (Ps 109:28).”
We too have an eternal reward because of Him, even heaven’s bliss forever and ever.
Brothers, One has revealed God to us because He knows Him, having been sent by Him. Only God in the Flesh – His equal in full rightful submission – could manifest the glory of God, and we are His.
